RESEARCH UNIT

Building a Foundation for Evidence Based, Impactful and Sustainable Solutions through Research

To accelerate progress towards realization of the Sustainable Development Goals, the government of Kenya has recognized the need for effective governance, regulations, policy, technical and infrastructural development as well as investment in research and innovation to ensure availability of credible data for development of sustainable water and sanitation solutions.  Research is particularly key for policy makers and stakeholders in Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) and Water resources management (WRM) to ensure data driven decisions. Similarly, AWWL recognizes the importance of research in addressing the gaps in WASH services delivery and water resources management towards promoting equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene through sustainable solutions. The research unit at AWWL was established in July 2025 to play the important role in conducting research and contributing trustworthy data geared towards offering evidence based and impactful solutions in the WASH space including water resources and environmental management.

To achieve sustainable and inclusive development, evidence must guide action. At AWWL, we understand that real change in the WASH & WRM sector begins with solid research.

We invite researchers, institutions, development partners, and policymakers to work with us. Together, we can advance WASH research that informs policy, improves service delivery, and tackles key gaps in water, sanitation, and hygiene management, development and financing.

By joining hands, we can generate reliable data, create innovative solutions, and make a lasting impact in communities, especially the vulnerable and marginalized groups in society. Join us in building a water-secure, healthier, safer and sustainable environment for everyone.
